"We recently reported that the friends and family of 8 year old Campbell Hoyt – who suffers from a cancer that affects her spine and brain – had appealed to One Direction via social media to ask them to record a message for the brave little girl…
At the time, Harry Styles sent Campbell “all the love in the world” in a message on Twitter, but behind the scenes, he was quietly arranging to actually go and meet Campbell, who spends much of her time in a hospice now. And yesterday, despite having only just arrived in America for the next leg of the band’s gruelling Where We Are tour, Harry made Campbell’s with come true by visiting her at her home in New Jersey.
Speaking to the Alternative Press, Campbell’s mother Robin said, “He didn’t do this for publicity. “He just wanted to meet Cam. I wouldn’t want anyone to get the wrong idea.”
We’ve been very moved by Campbell’s story since it first came to our attention, and obviously Harry was too, and of course, she’s not the first Directioner who Harry has made a big effort to offer support to, and nor will she be the last, of that we’re sure. Because Harry is – clichéd though it may sound – in a very real way an outstanding role model.
That said, we know he doesn’t carry out any of his selfless acts in order to be lauded in the media; in fact, quite the opposite as much of what he does to help sick children is done very quietly and without any fanfare. He just wants to make their wish come true. He’s a credit to not only his loving family but to the UK also, and his fans are rightly very proud of him…
Aside from the work he – and his band mates of course – do for charities and for ill fans, Harry ticks boxes all over when it comes to being a role model for young people. He works hard, and does so with a smile on his face. He gives his all on-stage, even when he’s ill…”
"…In short, Britain is proud of you Harry. Well done for being you, and a big bravo to Anne Twist and Des Styles. Your son is amazing." [source]
